打從我們雙腿直立地面，空出雙手的那一刻，便不斷地與天地萬物較量。我們挖得比地鼠還深，爬得比山羊還高，集結得比狼群緊密，發展比蜜蜂嚴謹的組織，建造比白蟻更複雜的宮殿，比松鼠善於囤積，比狐狸狡猾，比蛇蠍惡毒，比蜘蛛善於編織，唱得比畫眉好聽，比大象有力，吃得比猿猴豐盛，喝得比果蠅香醇……

但我們依然十分餓渴，因為心底總有一個很細、很細的聲音：「我要…我要…」

要游得比魚快，要潛得比鯨深，要快過印度豹，要飛得比鳥高，要看得比鷹遠，
要聽得比蝙蝠清晰。

一旦我們擁有便得趕快拋棄，因為我們還要…還要…

還要消息傳得比光快，還要推力更勝海嘯，還要擁有火山爆裂的威力，還要細菌分解轉換萬物的秘密，還要跨越星系，還要宇宙初創生命暨毀天滅地的魔法，還要…

直到大家不得不擠在被要到蒼白貧瘠的大地上，這不是誰有心造孽，只是每個「我」都聽得到像浪濤般難以止息的聲音：「我要…我要…我還要…」

Wu Tu Ping (Dark-Soil Plain)

Since the moment we have our feet on the ground standing vertically with two empty hands, we have been constantly competing with the Nature. We dig deeper than a shrewmouse can, climb higher than a goat does, group around tighter than wolves do. We develop more strict organizations than bees do and build up more complex palaces than termites do. We accumulate more than squirrels do, am slier than fox is and am more vicious than snakes and scorpions are. We weave better than spider does, sing nicer than sing thrush does, have more strength than elephant has. We eat better than apes do and drink better than fruit flies do….

Somehow we are still very hungry and thirsty because there is always a little voice deep inside our hearts saying: “I want it…I want it….”

We want to swim faster than fishes do, dive deeper than whales do, run faster than cheetahs do, fly higher than birds do, look farer than eagles do, and hear clearer than bats do.

Once we have something at hand, we have to throw it away. Because we want more…want more….

We want messages sent faster than light speed and thrusting stronger than tsunami does. We also want the power of volcanic eruption, the secret that bacteria decompose organic creatures, and the galaxy-trespassing magic that the universe creates life and destroy the world. We want….

Till the moment that people are forced to be squeezed into the pale and exhausted land. This is not that someone intentionally commits a sin. It is only because that every “Me” could hear clearly about a wave-like voice that is so hard to stop: “I want…I want…I want more….”
