崙仔腳三百年
你為何眉眼擠成一團？你為何咳嗽不已？你為何連多看我一眼都不肯？你為何捂著鼻子匆匆離去？
當你看到我容毀姿殘，腳下鋪著一層又一層的垃圾，你一定嫌我醜死了。就算老天降下傾盆大雨，幫我洗一個月的澡，我還是沖不掉一身惡臭。就算火苗終年焚燒不歇，也消不去我滿肚的沼氣，連溫暖的三月春陽灑在我身上，也冒不出一滴鮮綠。我大概比身上爬滿跳蚤的癩皮狗更惹人嫌惡。
可是你如果跟隨吳子光在1875年左右經過我身邊，一定免不了要讚嘆：「余自光緒紀元後，車塵樸樸彰、淡間，每見一邱一壑，雞犬桑麻，皆含畫意，謂此處人家，何修而獲居福地？」至今這段話放在我心中咀嚼，猶有喉韻回甘，並能在眼中揉成一片金色山巒的畫面。
如果當時你跟著美國人D. Thompson.走進淺山，稍離人煙，就會看到「處女林無限壯美地聳立在我們面前，千萬種不同的樹彼此相併地、沒有差別地生長在這裡，把它們高大的樹枝混合起來，或與一些葛藤或其他攀爬植物互相連接著，這裡有巨大的樟樹，高聳的棕梠樹，美麗的筆筒樹，而在下面又有無數比較卑微的植物，生長在它們陰影底下。那是羊齒植物，有毛的苔蘚，蘭科植物，海金沙，山蘇花等等」。
唉！真抱歉。我已病到全身爬滿蟲蛆，還不知羞慚的向你誇耀與人初戀的處女之吻。只因，
我知道流膿的軀體裡猶有羞澀的種子，
它將陪我靜靜看著，
看著日子如星雨般陣陣灑落，
直到花朵從灰燼中昇起。

Lunzijiao

Why do you give me that kind of unpleasant look? Why do you cough so much? Why don’t you take one more look at me? Why do you muffle your nose and leave so hurriedly?

You must think I am very ugly and unpleasant when you see my deteriorated face with layers of garbage. Even though the heaven rains heavily to help me take one-month-long bath, I cannot wash away such stinky smell. Even though the flame runs all year long, it cannot truly burn out the marsh gas inside my belly. Even when the heartfelt warm sunlight in March shines on me, there won’t be any green plants sprouting accordingly. I am probably more disgusted than a mangy dog with flea over its body.

It would be much different if you followed Tzu-kwang Wu passing by me around 1875. You would not help yourself but praise: “Since the beginning of Guangxu period (1875-1908), I have been busy commuting between Changhwa and Tamsui. Those hills and valley, farming animals and fields I saw on the trip are all very picturesque. I always wonder why people could have such blessings to live at a wonderland like that.” This statement has been inside my mind and every time I think of it, I still feel like a mellow feeling after tasting. It reminds me of a scene of golden hills in my eyes.

If then you had chance to go with American D. Thompson entering the shallow hills that are sparsely populated, you would see “The virgin forest stand so grandly in front of us. So many different kinds of trees grow together here as companies. Their tall and high branches cross over with each other or connect with vines or other climbing plants. Here there are giant camphor trees, tall palm trees, beautiful brush pot trees (Cyathea lepifera) while countless minor species of plants growing underneath their shadows. Those are fern plants consisting of hairy moss, orchid plants, Japanese climbing fern, flower of bird’s nest fern…etc.”

Alas! I am so sorry. How come I could so shamelessly show off the sweet memory of my first time encounter with human begins with the fact that I am so ill that maggots and worms are already over my body? It is only because -

I know there is still a deeply-hidden seed inside my body with pus,
it would quietly watch with me,
we would see days go by like starry rain coming over and over again,
till a flower rising from the ashes.
