Four Rhymes of Kuan-Yin
Four Rhymes of Kuan-Yin
300 years ago when Yun-ho Yu stayed overnight at the outlet of Tamsui River, he described the contemporary scene like this: “The cicadas and other insects sing like playing instruments. Sometimes the sound is so clear as like it is underneath my bed. Tide regularly reaches the stairs of the hut I stay. When I go outdoors, grass grows so high that almost reaches my shoulder. Aged trees twist and interweave together in such strange shape that I never see before. Bamboos grow wildly among those trees and stop me from seeing through in short distance…Sea wind roars angrily and all kinds of sounds respond accordingly. The echoes run around the forest valley and the sound is so loud that it seems almost to shake the hut and bed apart. Apes cry in the midnight like ghosts crying….”
