1926年仲摩照久形容昭和時代此地的樣貌是：「市街是沿著淡水河右岸呈細長狀，居民幾乎全是台灣人，日本人的人數極少，淡水街後有大屯火山群諸峰，前面隔著淡水河，可遠眺觀音山秀峰，風景之美冠於臺灣北部其他各地。」

In 1926, Teruhisa Nakama described the scene here during Showa period (1926-1989): “The threadlike area of street and market are alongside the right bank of Tamsui River, where inhabitants are nearly all Taiwanese with very few Japanese population. Behind Tamsui River there is Tatun Volcano Group. Cross Tamsui River one could see Kuan-yin Mountain where the scenic beauty is on top over other places of Northern Taiwan.”
