The Overpass over Wutu River

The Overpass over Wutu River
Every old man talking about the living environment in childhood sounds like somniloquy. Such memories accompanied by soft sighs hear so sad. For example, he pointed the overpass and said that he caught a Formosa barking deer underneath the overpass when he was a little boy. He said that in the gutter in front of door there used to be Ayu (sweet fish) leaping and there used to be a large tree with wild orchid growing all over just by the pylon…. We quietly watch the landscape comparison between reality and dream. At most we let the sighs with emotion and legends together disappeared with time.

In fact, while listening to them I gradually found out that I am like those old men. Someday it would happen to me that I could not protect the existing living world so that I would not feel for her destroy fate or try to find a satisfactory excuse for this. We face that a lot of slops are shoveled into different uses and we don’t worry about mudflows and landslides. We think that helps the economic development anyway. We never feel sorry to look at overpass penetrating through hills and killing primitive forests. We presume having convenient communications will beneficiate everyone. We don’t feel heartache when seeing tidal flat covered and segmented. We are not sad when seeing one after another river drying up while grouping of fishes dying. We don’t have any panic upon standing on the grease and trash-buried scars. All could be regarded as the medal of progress, which refers to the fact that we allow developing area into developed one. No one would get scared by the fact that we kill ten thousand tons of animal everyday. It only requires ignorance and a little slip of memory, and then it is a good remedy to cure eco-anxiety. Looking on the bright side is the morphine to the heaven.

Looking from our heavily sleepy eyes, the sadness of the land is slightly fascinating….
